Happy “Wedding” Thursday, lovelies!
I had decided to post the Wedding Guest Guide on Wednesdays because the names went together better, but I’ve noticed feedback is better on Thursdays. I don’t want to leave any details out or miss anyone’s questions or suggestions, so I am thinking of extending this series passed the month of April! If you have an questions about wedding guest attire or have any particular requests feel free to let me know in the comments or shoot me an email at thatndgirl@gmail.com.
I’m excited to address this week’s topic as I can relate to the reader’s predicament!
Wedding Date: May 20, 2017
Location: Hotel Ballroom
Dress Code: Semi-Formal / Cocktail attire
Dilemma #1: Husband is in the wedding (Usher: Will be wearing suit)
Dilemma #2: Soft tummy
So, like I said, I have a similar event coming up in the month of June where J will be an usher in a wedding, and eh-hm.. “mombod.”
I can totally relate to this reader, as I’m sure some of you can as well!

Alright, now let me begin by saying you are absolutely beautiful the way you are. No clothing or accessory will shine brighter than your personality and beautiful smile! So, please take my advice with a grain of salt.
Maybe you will completely disagree with my take on this certain situation, and that is perfectly fine! I hope you will enjoy my thoughts and vision, but I’m merely one person with a unique sense of fashion.
When you’re a bit sensitive about your new “mom tum” or maybe you’ve always had small insecurities about your mid-section (perfectly normal, we all hate bathing suit season). In order to hide or rather “de-accentuate” your tum, I like to have a defined waist! My waist had been completely lost after Lewi, and dresses that accentuated my “waist” gave me the right shape!
You’ll want to stay away from dropped waist styles, though. Something between an empire and natural waist will be key! It’s all about your individual proportions. Short waisted? Go for the empire waist style! Long torso? Check out the natural waist selections! Knowing your own body shape and length will help tremendously through the shopping process!
To keep the visual away from your mid-section, opt for a fun sleeve or neckline! V-necklines will draw attention to your top half and take away any unwanted visuals. If you’re not a v-neck kind of girl (like me), go for more of a scoop-neck. I try to make sure my neckline isn’t too low (big chest probs). Adding a statement necklace or earrings will draw more focus to your beautiful face and add to that bright smile! 🙂
Dressier themes can be confusing at times, especially if you’re not very chummy with the happy couple. Sometimes it’s hard to decide just how dressy you’ll need to be to be comfortable. My rule of thumb is that nobody is going to gawk at you for dressing to impress. As long as you don’t show up in a white dress with a veil, you’ll most likely be fine! (I know that not all brides opt for white or ivory dresses these days, but you catch my drift.)
For instance, you will want to take a family picture (maybe just you and the hubs) at the event to document your night. If your guy is in the wedding, will be wearing a suit, and looking dapper as ever, you’re going to want to coordinate your look to his. You’ll want to take your look to the same dress code as him, that way any photo opportunity will work to your advantage!
For a May wedding (I got married in May, in case you were wondering.. haha), floral patterns shoot to the top of my list (my wedding dress even had blush cherry blossoms all over). You can get away with both soft and bright colors because the season is right in between spring and summer! You won’t need much of a sleeve or strap because the service and reception will be help indoors, and there isn’t a fabric you can’t wear! (Except maybe velvet, but I don’t know why you’d be wearing velvet in May! [laugh with me, okay?])
Shoes are simple! Anything nude goes. The only dress shoe I would stay away from for this certain theme is a wedge. Wedges won’t look as fancy or classy with your beautiful dress. If you’re comfortable with a heel, the skinnier the classier. The chunkier heel you go, the sassier your look will come off. If you’re a flats girl, you do you! There are options for all comfort zones and walking capabilities.
Pointed toes, open toes, it doesn’t matter! Both are appropriate for the date and venue. I did add a couple rockstud styles, that are dupes to the ever famous Valentino Rockstud collection. They’re all around $100 compared to the $800-$1200 designer styles! I have hear and read only good things about the dupes and can’t wait to add a pair to my collection! I’m trying to decide between heels and flats.. the struggle is real.
I hope that was a helpful suggestion to the reader. Let me know what you want to hear more about in the comments!
