Hello Lovely!
It’s Thursday, and it’s officially October.
Two days ago was October third and if you don’t know what that means, we probably can’t be friends. Just kidding! But seriously if you don’t know what I’m talking about click here.
It has been an interesting week so far. I learned that one of my textbooks got lost during the move (i.e. the hubby may have thrown it away in a frenzy), and I had to take a test sans textbook information. The lecture podcasts saved me and I did alright, but it looks like I will be ordering another book!
Lewi has had a really tough transition to the new place. He was in the midst of a sleep regression during the move and has officially ended up in our bed every morning around 3:00 a.m.. Last night was super difficult for us, and Daddy may or may not have had an emotional breakdown. But, hey! You gotta love parenting, even the crazy long nights.
The home stretch of the pregnancy is under way and I’m starting to get those last month pains and ailments. I don’t remember being this tired last time! I seriously need a nap every day to function. Good thing Lewi also needs a nap! (Justin had recommended I stop letting Lewi nap in the hopes that he would sleep through the night. Ha! That didn’t work out so well.)
Now that I’m at the 10 week countdown, I decided it would be fun to share some of my baby registry with you!
I know what you’re thinking.. Isn’t this baby number two? Why would you have a registry for a second baby?
Let me start by answering your questions.
First, yes this is our second child so I thought I could shed some light to some of the gear you will actually want and use versus the stuff that isn’t necessary.
Actually, we borrowed a bunch of our gear when we had Lewi. We didn’t get those essential items from our first registry and we were broke. We had just gotten married and J had just graduated from college, and didn’t have careers or even jobs that could really support us. With that said, we had to give back our borrowed baby essentials once Lewi had his use out of them. And we are so grateful to the people that lent us their gear because we know just how important it is! But this time, we are in a much better place and want to be able to use all of our gear for our babies to come!
Second, this registry is acting more as an interactive checklist. We have actually purchased quite a few items from this list ourselves and don’t expect our loved ones to get us everything on the list! We were asked by some family what we might need. Thinking we’d make it easier, we made our list public to those that wanted to get us a gift but didn’t know what we needed! Also, this excerpt from my Babylist is made up of some expensive gear. We don’t expect any single person to get us a gift on their own. It’s more for family and friends that want to go in together and get a gift!
HALO Bassinest | HALO newborn insert | Swaddle UP | Dock-a-Tot Deluxe | Owlet Smart Sock 2 | SOLLY Baby wrap | Blooming Bath Lotus | 4moms Mamaroo | Humidifier | Chicco Double Stroller
If you’re unfamiliar with it, BabyList is a site that makes it possible for mommas to register at multiple stores for one registry! They also have an App so you can keep track of your items or add from your smartphone! They even send you emails when items on your list become unavailable or go on sale. This really helps Justin and I for the items we purchase ourselves. We got the new crib and Lewi’s toddler bed that way!
You can keep your BabyList registry private or make it public and share it with friends! I also find it helpful that you can have a private category of items that maybe you just want to keep track of, like clothes or other personal items that you don’t want others to purchase. I use this for all the Etsy items I think I need! 🙂
So, let’s start with the items that we actually need from this list. We need a bassinet, and of all the research I’ve done nothing beats the SNOO bassinet, which is not on my list because it retails for almost $1200 and I just can’t justify that price when it’s almost half of the price of my first car. Instead, the next best bassinet I’ve researched and had the privilege of testing out in store is the HALO Bassinest. J and I really like the fact that it can be bedside and swivels 360 degrees. The sides are adjustable for those late night feedings. The newborn insert ensures a safer mind for new moms worrying about baby rolling over.
The next item we need is some kind of carrier. We used a Baby Bjorn with Lewi and it worked just fine. We borrowed it from a family member, so it’s not ours. It worked great because Lew could hold his head-up as soon as he was born, but I’m afraid that’s not always the case with babies. I would much prefer to use a wrap or sling with the next baby and the Solly Baby wrap has some great reviews. I used the Boba Wrap with Lewi for one day and had to return it because it just didn’t feel right. My 8 lb newborn was sagging in the material even after it was as tight as possible. So, fingers crossed with this one.
We had a swing with Lewi, and it never helped with anything. The front to back motion did absolutely nothing for our screaming newborn, and it ended up breaking withing a couple weeks of use. The swinging motion just stopped. This time I’ve done my research and between the Nuna LEAF Curv and the 4moms Mamaroo, I would be happy with either. Though, I am leaning more toward the Mamaroo at the moment.
The last (but definitely not least) piece we need is a double stroller! Our current everyday single is a Chicco because our carseats are both Chicco and the base clicks right into the stroller. We haven’t had any issues with our stroller besides the normal wear and tear. It would be easiest to go ahead and get the double in the same brand so we could click the infant base into the stroller. I don’t think spending over $400 on a stroller is necessary for us at this point, and we’ve been happy with our Chicco so why change a good thing?
One item I would love to try is the Dock-a-Tot Deluxe. We used a Boppy pillow with Lewi, but he wouldn’t nurse so it didn’t really get used for its purpose. It also didn’t do much once he could move a little, as he would slide right off the pillow. The Dock-a-Tot isn’t a nursing pillow, but is for keeping baby put while momma runs around. It has a much better design for this and would make co-sleeping a possibility for naps and travel. It also has amazing reviews!
The other items are pretty frivolous (with the exception of the humidifier), but would still be fun to get! The Owlet is supposed to bring an ease to the minds of new moms. I had the misfortune of joining the NICU mom’s club with Lewi. Luckily, he was only there for preventative care, and was able to go home after four days. But I totally understand why this piece would be so detrimental to some mommas. The Blooming Bath Lotus would make the cutest bath time pictures, but is definitely not a necessity.
I hope you find some items you like or would love to add to your registry! I definitely recommend using BabyList for your registry. It’s helpful to not have limits on what you can or can’t register for based on convenience.
If you have any questions about creating a baby registry, BabyList, or any items in this post feel free to leave a comment!
