Hello, Lovely!
It’s Wednesday, and I thought I’d share a little recap of our Fourth of July festivities from last week!
We (Lewi, my mother-in-law, and I) left on Wednesday (June 28) after my early morning OBGYN appointment. From Fargo we traveled to Nisswa, MN, where we spent the late afternoon-early evening shopping around the town’s quaint shops.
Road trip selfie!
Nisswa is the neatest place! If you’re ever in the Brainerd Lakes area and are into boutique shopping (Women’s, Men’s, Children’s & home dêcor), custom items, balsamic vinegar and oils, old-time candy and ice cream shops, turtle races, quirky restaurants and more, I recommend planning a trip to this little sweet town that borders the city lines of Baxter, MN.
Enjoying his treats from the Nisswa.
On Thursday, we enjoyed breakfast at the cabin gazing out at the lake with Justin’s grandparents. We spent a fair amount of the afternoon shopping at the outlet mall in Albertville, MN. We found some awesome sales, and I came back with a new Kate Spade diaper bag — I’m in love with it. My father-in-law joined us at the cabin later that evening.
I don’t give my child caffeine… just sugar.
Friday came and went as we ran into town for some supplies. We enjoyed Starbucks, Target, and family time. My sister-in-law joined us for supper and J arrived late that night. I was so glad to see him! Someone please tell me, how people do long distance once they’re married, it’s so hard for me to be away from my husband. I blogged till bedtime, and he rubbed my back. It was perfect.
Saturday was the first day we were able to enjoy our time on the actual lake as the weather finally started to heat up! Paddle board rides with Lewi and J were the best way to start our day. More family had arrived by lunch time, and we were enjoying the time we had to catch up. We spent our night with friends and campfire stories.
Sunday was probably the nicest day at the lake. We went to morning Mass in Motley, MN, and decided to take a detour on the way back to the cabin to spend some time at our favorite spot in town. Motley is home to the Silo Ice Cream Parlour and Antique shop. This is the coolest little haven in such a small town! The ice cream is delicious and the antiques are adorable. This is another small town I recommend planning a stop in just for this spot!
We took the old 1968 ski boat out to take Lewi on his first tube ride! It was so fun, my kid loves water just like his daddy. Justin showed us all up with his amazing ski techniques — and I had a great time doing my part to be the spotter. We drove into the town of Staples, MN for some pizza courtesy of Tower Pizza (another Magee family tradition).

Monday was our last day at the lake, and though it wasn’t quite as nice as Sunday, we took the boat out one last time before taking it out of the water. We spent the majority of the day in the cabin, sharing family time and stories. We left after supper and got home to sleep in our own beds for the first time in days, but we didn’t leave without getting a four generation picture of the Magee men!
Lewi fell asleep on the way to the parade.
Tuesday was the actual Fourth of July, and we decided to make the short venture to my home town! We started the morning off by getting Lewi some new kicks before we left Fargo. The morning went by so fast as we spent the majority of it at a parade in a nearby town. The afternoon was filled with swimming, a craw fish bowl, and laughter. By evening it was time to go home, again.
“I’m not spoiled, Dad.”
Instead of enjoying supper with the rest of us, Mr. Lewi decided he didn’t like any of the food there was to offer. We ended up making a stop at a Pizza Ranch to fill his little belly before returning to Fargo.
Overall, we had a great Fourth and got to make lots of new memories with our one-year old. I can’t wait to add another little Magee to the mix next year!
Have a splendid day.
xo, Tay
