Hello Pumpkin!
I hope you had a great weekend. We spent ours doing some Fall things, even though the weather tried to trick us into thinking it was July!
On Saturday, the humidity was so thick you could have cut the air with a knife. Sunday was a 93 degree wave of miserable heat.
We spent Saturday at the Fall Festival put on by Fargo Parks at Rheault Farm right off 25th Street South. It’s a great annual event for the whole family, especially if you have really young littles. There is a pumpkin patch, a straw bale maze, Fall-themed backgrounds for photo opportunities, Fall-themed activities for the kiddos like face painting and pumpkin painting, and a horse drawn hay ride!
It was a nice way to continue our annual Fall activities before we move into the new house at the end of the month. Next weekend is Fall Junk Market at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds, and I am SO excited!
We are anticipating many nights in after we move into the house. Since we are so close to the holiday season, we know it’s smartest to save money when we can. So, I have decided to start planning some fun date nights in, starting with a Halloween movie countdown.
The Freeform channel (previously known as ABC Family), has always put out a 13 Nights of Halloween special every year. This year they have decided expand the event to 31 Nights of Halloween instead. This got me very excited to see what movies they would be including in their lineup. The lineup was very disappointing. Many of the nights were repeat movies. Also, they were airing exclusive movies after midnight, when most people are snoozing in their beds. This got me to thinking, that I needed to create my own list.
We already own so many Halloween-ish movies. Plus, it’s the age of video streaming, and so many great movies can be found on Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and Prime Video. I decided to compile a list that includes some kid-friendly shows along with the classics.
I used to LOVE scary movies. Though I’m not a huge gore fan, when Justin and I were dating we would always watch horror movies. It must have been the appeal of cuddling into the chest of a big strong man. Now, I can barely sit through Game of Thrones!
So, keep in mind that this will probably be a mild list for any Horror buffs out there.
Films for the Whole Family
Put the Kids to Bed
Cult Classics
Spooky Series
I am a HUGE Tim Burton fan, so you will see a bunch of his films included in this list. Also, I made sure to be specific when listing films due to my personal taste. I didn’t love the new Carrie film like the classic. Although I do like the fourth and fifth Scream movies, I don’t think they follow the line of the first three. The same goes for Halloweentown because of the change in main characters. Other series like Halloween, A Nightmare on Elmstreet, and Friday the 13th have different casts with every film, so I didn’t think it was relevant to weed through which movies were the best and worst.
I would use your best discretion with some of the films if you have really little ones. Movies like Jack the Giant Slayer may not be appropriate for children under the age of 12, depending on your parenting style.
To answer the question I am going to ask you at the end of this post. I am most looking forward to re-watching Beetlejuice. It has been YEARS since I’ve seen the film and I am eager to add it to our movie collection.
What Halloween movie are you most excited to watch this season? Let me know in the comments!
